Galvalume Gutters

Galvalume.
For the Salt Air.

Aluminum-zinc coated steel that resists salt-air corrosion better than aluminum. The right call for properties within a few miles of the coast or anywhere salt-laden air gets pushed inland by storm systems.

When Galvalume makes sense

Polk County is inland, which means most homes here don’t actually need Galvalume. Aluminum holds up fine 30+ miles from the coast. But there’s a band of properties, the southwestern corner of the county, especially around Mulberry, and properties at higher elevations that catch weather pushed inland from Tampa Bay, where salt-laden air becomes a factor over time.

For those, Galvalume buys you decades of corrosion resistance that aluminum can’t match. We don’t push it on customers who don’t need it; for an inland Lakeland home it’s overkill. For a property that catches Gulf air, it’s the right metal.

Common Questions

Answered.
Plainly.

What is Galvalume?
It's steel with a coating that's roughly 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon. The aluminum gives the long-term corrosion resistance, the zinc gives the immediate sacrificial protection at scratches and cut edges, and the result lasts significantly longer than either galvanized steel or bare aluminum in salt-air environments.
Is it really better than aluminum near the coast?
For salt-air exposure, yes. Aluminum can corrode in salt environments over decades; Galvalume resists it. For inland Polk County homes (Lakeland, Bartow, Auburndale) the difference is negligible and aluminum is more cost-effective. For homes within a few miles of the Gulf or properties that get coastal weather pushed inland, Galvalume is worth the upgrade.
What does the finish look like?
Two main options: 'mill finish' is the unpainted aluminum-zinc surface, a soft silver-grey that develops light patina over decades. Kynar 500 is a high-performance painted finish in a limited but premium color palette including matte blacks, dark bronzes, and architectural greys. Mill is most common; Kynar is used when the architecture calls for a specific color.
What's the warranty?
25-year corrosion warranty from the steel manufacturer (the substrate itself), plus the finish warranty if Kynar-coated (typically 30 years). Our 5-year workmanship warranty applies as on aluminum jobs.
Is it more expensive than aluminum?
Yes, typically 30–40% more per linear foot installed. For a typical 160-foot home that's an extra $400–700 over aluminum. Worth it for coastal exposure; not worth it for inland.
Can I cut and seal it the same way as aluminum?
Yes. Standard gutter sealants and fabrication tools work on Galvalume. We use the same roll-former on the truck (with the appropriate die for the gauge) and the same sealants. The corner detail and downspout outlet sealing are identical.
